Buying in Bulk

We have already addressed my slight food hoarding problem. It doesn’t just pertain to meat and freezer items. When I can – and I have room – I buy other things that I frequently use on sale as well. This can be at the grocery store, at Sam’s or Costco, or wherever I might see something. Once again, I know not everyone is able to do this, but if you can, and the item is something that you can use or it won’t expire or spoil too quickly, I say go for it!

I buy items like this and then when I plan meals, I look to see what I already have in my pantry that I can utilize for my meals. It’s just helpful to me to plan this way, and, many times, it pushes me to look for new recipes that use these items so that we are not having the same things all the time. We like variety.

If you don’t have room for storing lots of bulk items, you might think about going in with a friend or friends and splitting the items. That way you get the great pricing, but you don’t have to deal with large amounts of something.

You can try using the white board idea here as well. Keep a running list of the items you have in order to make the most out of what you have as you plan your meals.

I know these suggestions are very basic, but not everyone thinks about doing some of these things in order to make their routines more manageable. Give it a try! It will save you some money on the items and will keep you from eating out or ordering takeout as often because you are managing your mundane!
