Managing the Mundane

Everyday helps and hints for everyday life

A collection of ideas for meal planning, recipes, and cooking and cleaning tips and tricks

Let’s face it. Except for holidays and a few special occasions throughout the year, most of life is routine – dare I say – mundane. We get up, we go to work or go about our day, we take care of kids and our spouse, we cook, we clean, we attend after-school activities, church activities, and sporting events, and we fall into bed exhausted, just to start it all over the next day. That’s where this site comes into play. My goal is to help you manage your daily routine a little more efficiently and hopefully make things a little easier and more organized for you. Check out the About tab for more details about me and how this all started. You can get some suggested meal planning with recipes under the Menus tab and some planning, cooking, and cleaning pointers on the Helps and Hints tab.

  • It has been over a full year since I started making these posts. I won’t be publishing any new menus as there are enough menus posted for an entire year. However, come back here often as I plan to post any new recipes that I have found and tried so that you have some new ideas as well. If I come up with any other new helps and hints, I will also post those.

And here are some of those new recipes that I have tried!! The ones that were previously posted are under the button New Recipes to Try!

Slow Cooker Beef Stew – This is a recipe I found in a magazine but I also found it online. It is super easy as it uses frozen stew vegetables and there is no cooking involved. You just dump everything in your slow cooker. You can use basically any kind of beef roast or stew meat for this. I do like to add a few more cut up red potatoes to the frozen stew vegetables, and many times I double the recipe to make a larger batch. I also usually use beef broth instead of the red wine.

Chicken Scampi with Garlic Parmesan Rice – This recipe has the same flavor as shrimp scampi, so it’s more economical to fix and maybe a little healthier. It’s super easy and uses mainly things you probably already have in your pantry and freezer.

General Tso’s Chicken – We love Asian food, and my husband especially loves this dish. I found this recipe that lets you cook the chicken in the air fryer instead of frying in oil, if you choose, before placing it in the sauce. I will say that you probably want to err on the side of cooking it a little less time in order to check it. I let it get a little dry in the air fryer. It was still really good and makes a good-sized portion for two to three people.
